  • Automobile accidents are a common occurrence and the Association for Safe International Road Travel reports that over two million people are disabled or injured in auto accidents in the United States each year. According to the Michigan State Police, there were over 74,000 auto related injuries sustained in the state of Michigan in 2015. Insurance carriers shoulder a heavy burden when it comes to these automobile-related injuries and automobile no-fault claims, not least of which pertains to claimant satisfaction.

Traditionally, many insurance carriers rely on mailing injury-related claims documents to their claimants. These same insurance carriers also need their claimants to submit completed paperwork and any reimbursement requests for medical expenses related to the auto no-fault claim. The adjuster handling these claims must then individually review each of these documents and evaluate them to ensure each request for reimbursement is directly related to the auto no-fault claim and the injuries sustained by the claimant at the time of the auto accident. This evaluation process can be rather lengthy and it may be several days or weeks before the claimant is notified whether his or her reimbursement request was accepted. Once an adjuster evaluates the claimant submissions and determines the reimbursement request was appropriate and relevant to the claim, it may take up to 30 days for the claimant to be fully reimbursed by the insurance carrier.

Many consumers do not have extensive knowledge of the insurance industry, and many claimants injured in an auto accident may not know what to expect when it comes to an auto no-fault claim and medical expense reimbursement. With the advancing technology widely available in many industries today, claimants have come to expect rapid claims processing and almost instant payment. The traditional procedure of mailing claims paperwork and claimant reimbursements is not the most efficient method of administering auto no-fault claims. This lengthy processing time can and often does lead to decreased claimant satisfaction with the insurance carrier and the adjusters.

The claims process can be rather complicated when it involves automobile related injuries and claimant medical expense reimbursement. Northwood provides added efficiency to the claims administration process by working with insurance carriers and their adjusters on auto no-fault claims. With Northwood, the traditionally lengthy reimbursement processes for these claims can be virtually eliminated because an insurance carrier’s claimants will no longer need to pay out of pocket for medical expenses related to their claim. Northwood’s process ensures the claimant does not pay out of pocket for claims-related expenses and eliminates the need for mailing in reimbursement requests. This reduces administration time spent on auto no-fault claims and allows the claimant to experience a more expedited claim resolution, which in turn increases claimant satisfaction for the insurance carrier.
